“What and who is a modern man?” read the show notes of Agi & Sam’s spring/summer 2017 collection. “And just importantly, who and what is a modern woman? It is not logical to look at masculinity in isolation from femininity.”

Inspired by the work of Norwegian artist Nikolai Astrup, who focuses on painting traditional family home landscapes but through unconventional and revolutionary techniques, Agi & Sam has created a distinctly nostalgic representation of the modern world’s man for spring/summer 2017, fusing typically male- and female-oriented roles and professions. Classic menswear patterns, such as ginghams, pinstripes and windowpanes make up the seventies-tinged colour palette of sepia tones.

But where these elements might make for a stitched-up collection, Agi & Sam opted for a deconstructed take on tailoring, with relaxed fits and ultra-soft fabrics, such as Merino wool, via a new collaboration with Dormeuil. Comprising a unique stretch to suit today’s lifestyle and elevate the notion of luxury, the Exel fabric, as it is known, uses the combined innovation of nature, science and art to cloth the modern man.
