In partnership with GQ Japan, our Snapshots video series interviews the country’s best fashion designers, as told through polaroid photographs, beginning with Yohji Yamamoto.

Born in 1943 and making his debut at Paris Fashion Week in 1981, Yamamoto is considered one of the greatest living fashion designers with thanks to his fusion of classical tailoring and avant-garde concepts. His contribution to the industry has earned him countless awards, including the Chevalier of Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In addition to his namesake line, he also designs collections by the names of Y’s and s’yte, and a collaboration with sportswear brand Puma, Y-3.
