Available now from the Australian brand’s Pitt Street and Collins Street stores and website, the Marcs x John Macarthur for Purl Harbour collection comprises a series of men’s and women’s handcrafted wool jumpers and scarves in vivid colour combinations and innovative patterns, with no two pieces alike.

A friend of Marcs’ late founder, Mark Keighery, Macarthur has built a reputation for his unique knitwear, which has been featured in magazines including Vogue and Elle and worn by supermodels Cindy Crawford and Miranda Kerr. The new project with Marcs, he says, was the perfect match. “I have [a] huge respect for the brand, and when I met with Nadia Jones [Marcs creative director] we agreed that our design philosophies were similar,” explains Macarthur. “I was thrilled at the opportunity to work with Marcs.”

Together, Jones and Macarthur set about exploring the design cornerstones of colour and texture, creating a colour-blocked jumper and scarf alongside a series of luxurious textured knits. “I love the fact that knitwear can be a classic, and that it grows with you and becomes not only part of your wardrobe but part of your life,” says Macarthur. “It’s so fascinating to be able to create something special from just one thread.”
